SOUTHEND United manager Paul Sturrock has told his players they cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves ahead of this weekend’s vital league clash at Cheltenham Town.
Blues’ 17 match unbeaten run was ended in the southern area semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy by Swindon Town who triumphed 2-1 at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.
But Sturrock is now demanding an immediate return to form.
“The lads were all very despondent after the Swindon game because they wanted to get to Wembley but we need to get back on track as quickly as we can again,” said Sturrock.
“We need to use the defeat as a kick up the backside to gee us up again and we certainly can’t afford to feel sorry for ourselves.
“If we do that then this could be a really bad week for us.
“But with Cheltenham being third in the table, Saturday's game is very important and it will also be very difficult as well.”
