SOUTHEND United's Luke Prosser was as shocked as anyone to be handed a recall on the left wing against Swindon Town.
Prosser usually plays in the back four for Blues.
But for Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash against the Robins at Roots Hall he was unexpectedly pushed on to the left hand side of midfield.
“It’s definitely not a position I’m used to playing in and I was a bit surprised to found out I’d been picked there,” said Prosser, 23.
“However, I was mainly just pleased to be in the team again and wherever the manager wants me to play I will.”
The start was only Prosser’s second since September.
However, he admitted to finding his unfamiliar role hard to play in.
“I knew where I had to be because you know that with all positions but it was all very new to me,” said Prosser.
“There was certainly a lot more running involved but, apart from maybe having a slight assist for our goal, I was disappointed.
“I also can’t see myself having a career as a winger either.”
Prosser had a hand in Blues taking the lead through Blair Sturrock as he bundled Sean Clohessy’s right wing cross back in to the path of the striker.
But Swindon hit back to triumph and that left the former Tottenham Hotspur trainee a frustrated figure at the final whistle.
“We’ve been on a great run but it was always going to end at some stage,” said Prosser. “It’s always disappointing to lose but hopefully we can now and get a good result at Cheltenham.”
