A SUPERB three under par back nine steered two-handicapper Steve Weidner to victory in Rochford Hundred's December Saturday medal.
But Weidner's 68-2 = 66 was only just good enough to win division one ahead of Steve Smyth (76-9=67) and Rob Moss (73-6=67).
Weidner collected a brace of birdies on the way out with an eagle and two birdies the highlights on the back nine.
A double bogey start didn’t faze Smyth who recovered with a birdie and a very consistent 12 pars. Moss eagled the par five 16th and notched a pair of bidies plus nine pars.
Two double bogeys in the last four holes couldn't stop Malcolm Otter winning division two when his 80-13=67 was too hot for Ian Walden (80-11=69) and Julian Tapscott (82-13=69) Otter, whose handicap came down one, enjoyed a birdie plus eight pars with Walden grabbing a birdie and parring seven holes.
A trio of double bogeys put paid to Tapscott’s hopes with a birdie and eight pars not quite repairing the damage.
Four pars helped Mick Hobbs (93-18=75) to victory in division three on countback from Barry Shillum (98- 23=75) with David Wilkins (101-23=78) in third place.
Rochford Ladies held a nine hole Bisque bogey competition with victory on the front nine going to Carol Johnson (plus 3) on countback from Kay Campbell-Carr.
Countback also decided back nine honours with Josie Hodder, again on plus three, seeing off the challenge from Jen Wade, Sue Squire and Chris Fox.
