Rochford Hundred were beaten 35-12 by Eton Manor after producing a disappointing performance.
Rochford’s set scrum, which had been improving, was dismantled by the aggressive East London outfit which made Rochford’s attacking platform weak.
And Manor’s speed and support play was also superior, meaning they were able to convert their chances.
If their kicker had been more accurate the score would have been higher as he only converted one of the six tries they scored.
But Manor started as they meant to go on, pinning Rochford in their own 22 from the kick off and then scoring two quick tries.
Gradually the home side responded and began to put some good moves together with quick ball through the backs but nothing came of them and slack play allowed Manor to counter well.
Another two unconverted tries gave Manor the bonus point and a 20 point lead but Rochford responded just before half time with a great breakaway by James Needham who powered through to score.
His brother Dan added the conversion to cut Manor’s lead to 20-7 at the break.
Rochford increased the tempo of their game early in the second half and, after some good approach work, centre Matt Stewart broke through to score another try.
However, the game then became a fractious affair with a number of fights and niggles going on, which seemed to play into Eton Manor’s hands more than Rochford’s.
Manor therefore added two tries, a conversion and a penalty to condemn third from bottom Rochford to a fifth successive defeat.
