MICHAEL Timlin wants to help Southend United win a sixth successive league game on the road for the first time’s in the club’s history at Cheltenham Town tomorrow.
Never before in 105 years of trying have Blues been able to win more than five league matches away in a row.
But Timlin, who is edging closer to joining Southend on a permanent basis, is keen to put that right at Whaddon Road “Records are there to be broken and that will be our aim this weekend at Cheltenham,” said the 26-year-old midfielder.
“We’ve been doing well away from home and it would be nice to keep it going because this is a really important game for both teams.”
Blues have previously won five away league games in a row in 1931 and 1991.
But the table-toppers want to go one better tomorrow.
It is a huge game for Southend too as they travel to a Cheltenham team who are currently third in the League Two standings.
And Timlin is desperate to get back to winning ways after he was suspended for Tuesday night’s defeat to his parent club Swindon Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Roots Hall.
“It wasn’t nice not being able to play but we have to concentrate on the league again now and get back on track with a good result,” said Timlin.
“It’s a massive match because Cheltenham are up there with us but we’re confidence we’re capable of getting a result.”
Timlin will again be looking to impress against the Robins and continue his successful loan spell with the club.
The midfielder joined Southend at the end of August and his current deal at Roots Hall is due to expire at the start of January.
However, the Echo believes Blues have now agreed to meet Timlin’s wage demands for the remainder of the 18 month contract he has with Swindon.
A move is being delayed as the clubs continue to negotiate a fee but Timlin insists he is still not sure where his future lies.
“I don’t know what’s been said between the two clubs and I’m just trying to concentrate on not letting it affect my form,” said Timlin, who is also attracting interest from another League Two team.
“I don’t want to be sidetracked and I’m loving it here at Southend.
