SOUTHEND United manager Paul Sturrock insists he will delve in to the transfer market to halt his side’s loss of form.

Blues have now not won in six games after suffering a disappointing 1-0 defeat to struggling Bradford City at Roots Hall on Friday night.

And Sturrock feels he needs a number of fresh faces to keep alive Southend’s push for promotion.

“It now merits for this team to be freshened up when the transfer window opens again in January,” said Stur-rock.

“I will be pushing very hard to bring in several players to football club because I do feel that’s important.

“I need more competition for places in certain areas of the team and it’s vital there’s an edge to our play again.

“I have irons in the fire with this already and it’s going to be an important time.”

Blues were again not at their best against the Bantams, who secured all three points thanks to an 88th-minute winner from defender Luke Oliver.

That earned City their first away win of the season and left Sturrock feeling incredibly frustrated.

“It was a real kick in the teeth for us but Bradford were the better team over the 90 minutes,” said the Scotsman.

“We had a lethargy about our play and I don’t know whether that was because we played Tuesday and then Friday.

“We just didn’t look our usual selves and we have certain players not contributing the way I would like, so there’s a lot for me to mull over.”
