WE face the first of four successive away games when we head to Northampton Town this weekend, but we’re not going to be daunted by any of the matches we have coming up.
At the same time though, we appreciate away matches in the professional game can sometimes be unforgiving so we will have to be on form because there are some tricky tests in there.
We start the run of games on the road with Northampton this weekend and that will certainly be a hard game.
They’ve got a good manager there in Aidy Boothroyd and had a great 2-1 win at Morecambe last Saturday.
But they’re still fighting for their lives and will be scrapping for everything.
At the start of the season, with the squad and budget they had they were among the favourites for promotion.
That means they will definitely be difficult to play against but it’s one of the shorter journeys in the league so I would imagine our fans will turn out in big numbers and get behind the team, which will be a huge help to us again.
We go in to the game full of confidence after winning 3-0 against Port Vale last weekend.
I thought the boys were fantastic in the first half and bounced back from the disappointing performance against Dagenham.
We looked like we did at Aldershot and AFC Wimbledon and hopefully that’s us now back on track again.
Our new signing David Martin, AKA Kirk from The Only Way is Essex, made his debut in that game and I was delighted for him to play for the full 90 minutes.
He looked a little rusty which was understandable as he hasn’t played many games recently.
But his attitude and desire was spot on and it won’t be long until he really shows what he can do, especially as the tests we’ve done at the training ground show he’s as fit now as when he was playing every week.
Glenn Morris also returned in goal for the Port Vale game, but he almost didn’t make it for the game after nearly being run over by Alex Woodyard at the training ground.
I’ve mentioned Woody a few times in the column this season and it will therefore not come as a surprise he didn’t realise his car was still in reverse when he tried to pull away.
Glenn was standing right behind him but reacted quickly enough to just get out of the way.
However, Ryan Hall has not been able to escape the stick over his new suit.
If it was a Christmas present from his friends or family then I apologise but if, like he said, he bought it himself then he deserves all the stick he’s getting.
The trousers are too tight, the jacket is too big and looks like it belongs in the 1970s.
I have to say it’s the worst suit I’ve seen during my time in football but at least I’ll know where to go if I’m ever invited to a Car Wash themed fancy dress party.
I think you’ll be able to see the suit on Sky Sports tomorrow too as we were featured on their ‘Take It Like A Fan’ programme this week. Myself, Kane Ferdinand and Anthony Grant took the quiz and didn’t let the team down as we raised a good amount of money for Havens Hospices.
