LAST time we were outplayed by Swindon Town in the league we went on a fantastic run of results and I’m hoping history is now going to repeat itself after our disappointing defeat to them on Tuesday night.
My views on that game have already been published but I thought we looked lethargic from the first whistle to the last which was very disappointing.
I asked the players to go home and look the mirror and see if they could have done anything differently and I’ve done the same because we left the fans down with the poor performance against Swindon.
We didn’t reach the standard I expect and I had the squad in for training the very next training.
We chatted things over as a group and, since then, I’ve had chats with a few individuals who are now in the last chance saloon.
I now have to decide whether or not to give the same set of players a chance to redeem themselves or whether or not to make changes.
I will have a long, hard think about things but I’ve always believed in horses for courses and it will be the same on Saturday.
I’m really looking forward to going back to Plymouth because I still have a lot of fondness for the club and the area.
There has been a disappointing sequence of events since I went back there for the second time but nothing ever surprises me in football anymore.
There’s some really nice people at the football club and it’s a nice town where I have a lot of friends and hope we’re all still friends after the game as well!
Carl Fletcher is now in charge down there and he’s someone I know well having been his manager at Plymouth.
I’m never a fan of someone going from being a player straight to being a manager but he’s changed the personnel there and is doing a good job.
When he first took over he had a lot of young kids in his squad but he’s added more experience since then.
They’re a big club and their fans really get behind them to act as a 12th man.
They’ve had some good results just recently and drew with Crawley in their last home game which takes some doing so we know we’re in for a very difficult game.
At the same time I would like to think we’re something of a wounded animal at this moment because of the Swindon defeat.
We need pride to be a feature of our performance and we need to get back on the rails with a good result.
>IT’S the start of the Six Nations this weekend and I will definitely be keeping an eye on the Scotland v England game on Saturday.
It takes place after our game against Plymouth has finished.
And I think it’s very unfair that Scotland have to play against a rest of the world team in their very first game of the competition!
It’s a similar story with the England cricket team at the moment where a number of different nationalities make up the side.
But us Scots remain very patriotic.
The rugby hasn’t gone too well for us lately which is a shame because it’s something we’ve always prided ourselves on.
However, trust me when I say this is definitely one game Scotland will not need motivating to play in!
