JACKSON Wray wants his extended contract with Saracens to signal the start of more success with the Premiership high-flyers.

The 21-year-old former King John School pupil has featured regularly for the St Albans-based side this season.

And he is keen to keep on impressing to eventually earn more international honours.

“It’s been nice to get a good run in the team this season and it’s showed how much progress I’ve made – but I have to keep going,” said Wray.

“I have a lot to learn and improve on but I want to keep on doing well and try to get in to the England Saxons squad.

“That would be a great achievement and it’s a definitely a real ambition of mine.”

The Saxons side is just one level below the full international team currently competing in the Six Nations.

Wray has previously played for England at under 16 and under 20 level and he has started to show just why with Saracens this term.

The youngster who grew up in Benfleet has featured in 17 of Saracens’ 27 games this season.

And he remains focused on taking the chances that come his way.

“I understand that we have a big and very good squad here and the way it works is that you will drop in and out of the side,” said Wray.

“But when the big games come along I want to try and make sure I’ve done enough to be involved in them.”

Wray has already played in front of 82,000 fans this season when Saracens beat Harlequins at Twickenham in December.

He has featured at both number six and number eight but does not mind where he is selected.

“I’ve played more at eight in my career, but I’m happy to play wherever,” said Wray.

“I just want to get games and help the team do well.”

Wray first started rugby at King John before joining Westcliff when he was 14.

Two years later he joined Barking and then moved on to become part of the Saracens Academy.

However, that came after Wray chose not to pursue a career as a hammer thrower.

“I was doing quite well in athletics as well and had quite a lot of success,” said Wray.

“But I had to choose between that and rugby and think I definitely made the right decision.”
