FISHING a brief overnight session due to a cricket match, Ben Poxon tried his luck at Doggetts’ south bank and ended up with a snapped rod!
Plenty of good fish were topping, so it was no surprise when he landed three nice fish to 19lb.
But he would have been much happier had the best fish of the night not beaten him when a rod unfortunately snapped.
As always, Poxon used a reasonable amount of Eclipse boilies feeding on a regular basis, but then he would as his father Dave Poxon owns the company that make them. Lake regular Bill Lamb saw plenty of fish topping and eventually took a 19lb mirror.
Matt Price caught a 17lb common one evening, as did Rob Snowden from the north bank.
Ian Simmons deserved his 19lb mirror from the back pool after a full day of hard fishing.
Martin Banks fished the short arm for a night in the back pool, where he lost a very hard-fighting fish but did land a 16lb common.
Also fishing the back pool, Geoff Hoe did an overnight session between work shifts and his efforts were rewarded with a fabulous 27lb mirror.
The week started well with fish being landed from all parts, with tench dominating the action.
It was almost impossible to put any bait anywhere without landing some good size fish, with roach and bream boosting the bags.
By the weekend the conditions changed and the manic feeding slowed leaving some anglers struggling, although very good roach were still in evidence as were large numbers of bream.
The carp anglers saw fish everywhere and, on the rare occasions the sun popped out, fish gave an excellent display of pretending to be keen on floaters.
