SOUTHEND United manager Paul Sturrock will not let his heart rule his head at Plymouth Argyle this weekend.

The Scotsman spent two spells in charge of the Pilgrims, bossing 277 games in the process.

And despite remaining incredibly fond of the Devon club, Sturrock is desperate to beat them tomorrow.

“Plymouth will always be a club and a place very close to my heart but that counts for nothing this weekend,” said Sturrock.

“My head will be ruling my heart and as I’m now with Southend and they’re obviously my main priority we will be going there to get the win.

“But I think Plymouth have a better side than they did last season and we will be in for a tough test.

“They had a good win at Morecambe last weekend and will be looking forward to the game.”

However, Blues will also make the long trip in a confident frame of mind after a run of good recent results.

Sturrock’s side have lost just one of their last seven outings and he remains pleased by the performances of his players and also the support they have received.

“We had injuries and all sorts going on so I think we can very pleased with the start we’ve made but the fans have been great too,” said Sturrock.

“In the last couple of home games they’ve really got behind us and they're always fantastic when we go away so I’m sure they will be again on Saturday.

“We will need them behind us too because it’s going to be a difficult game.”

Blues head in to the clash sitting eighth in the League Two table, just three points from second.
