KEVIN Davies handed Bolton Wanderers a Premier League relegation lifeline as his goal saw the Trotters to a 1-0 win over West Ham.

Wanderers are still in the drop zone, standing in 18th place, but moved to withing two points of a Birmingham side in 17th place.

Davies struck in the 47th minute but he could have been celebrating a hat-trick with the strike had two first half headers not been cleared off the line.

El Hadhi Diouf also had a goal ruled out for offside, while Hammers best chance of an equaliser came through striker Dean Ashton, whose overhead shot was tipped onto the bar.

The Hammers, who saw lost Anton Ferdinand early on to a hamstring injury, remain in 10th place.
